The harms of invasive species are as diverse as the assortment of species themselves. Some of these harms include: crowding out and killing native species, being allelopathic, using nutrients extremely quickly, creating salt deposits, growing over utility lines, smothering forests, facilitating forest fires, being aggressive, eliminating the genetic identity of native species, destroying native wildlife habitats, preventing rare and endangered species from growing, taking up large areas of usable space, invading farmland, poisoning livestock, poisoning humans, giving off a dislike-able odor, clogging utility pipes, clogging up lakes, preventing fishing, boating, swimming, etc., serving as an insect pest host, invading forestry industries, destroying the natural beauty of American forests, causing dissolved oxygen levels to rise or fall, changing fire cycles and flooding patterns, spreading deadly diseases, killing important crops, attacking humans, and in summary, turning the ecosystem upside down. The list goes on and on.
